This site shows weather conditions collected in two different environments on Wainwright Avenue in the neighborhood of Bay Ridge in Annapolis, MD.
Wainwright Back Yard
This environment is a suburban back yard with tall trees, hardscape, grass, and gardens. The microclimate is characterized by more humidity, less wind, and more heat retention.
Back yard data is collected using WeatherFlow SKY and AIR devices:
- Humidity, temperature, pressure, and lightning strike data is collected at ground level in the shade using the Weatherflow AIR instrument.
- Wind, rain, UV, and radiation data is collected at ~20' AGL using a Weatherflow SKY instrument.
- Note that the wind instrument uses an ultrasonic sensor, and the rain instrument uses a haptic plate sensor. This is different than most PWS equipment.
Wainwright Beach
This environment is a beach setting on the Chesapeake Bay with exposure to the east. The microclimate is characterized by clean wind fetch, lots of sun exposure, few "heat island" effects, and marine influence.
Wainwright Beach data is collected using the WeatherFlow tempest weather system:
- Humidity, temperature, pressure, wind, rain, UV, radiation, and lightning strike data is collected using a single sensor suite at approximately 15' AGL.
- Ground level at the sensor location is ~25' AMSL.
- Note that the wind instrument uses an ultrasonic sensor, and the rain instrument uses a haptic plate sensor. This is different than most PWS equipment.
